ACUTHERAPY 20 CREDIT HOURS
Acutherapy is a light, gentle touch along with energetic principals, which in a non-evasive way, helps reduce stress, promote pain relief. Acutherapy can be used in circumstances where many other modalities may be prohibited.
ANATOMY PHYSIOLOGY 125 CREDIT HOURS
In this class students will cover basic medical terminology, the 11 systems of the body on a cellular level with special emphasis on the skeletal system, Muscular System and Lymphatic Systems of the body.
BODY MECHANICS 2 CREDIT HOURS
This class deals with the structure of the body. What is the proper alignment of the bones, and are the tissues re-aligning the bones. We will measure and check alignments of the body as you learn to recognize problem areas.
BUSINESS PRACTICE AND ETHICS 25 CREDIT HOURS
Business practices are designed to guide the professional massage therapist in real life business application. They will establish goals and course projects designed to develop practical business and management skills, essential to their respective practices.
Students will learn what ethics are and why they are essential in the work place. They will learn to when it is proper to massage and when to refer clients to the proper professionals for treatment.
CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME/ THORACIC OUTLET 3 CREDIT HOURS
This class will teach students the difference between nerve related pain of the arm with tests to discern the difference between carpal tunnel and other common nerve problems of the arm. Students will learn treatments for normal arm nerve problems as well as a carpal tunnel treatment.
CHAIR MASSAGE 2 CREDIT HOURS
This class will introduce the students to chair massage along with the body mechanics needed to perform the massage in a sitting position, at the work place or onsite areas. Students will understand basic strokes and methods needed to manipulate the muscle while in such positions.
CHINESE THEORY 15 CREDIT HOURS
An effective approach to Oriental Theory assessment and treatment. The 5 elements will be studied in depth as well as meridians or Qi and their importance in treatment situations.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE 20 CREDITS HOURS
This class teaches students techniques that will promote the balancing of the structural frame of the body, the use of proper body mechanics as well as neuromuscular techniques that affect the fascia of the body. Discussion of how the body developed problems that affect the posture and homeostasis of the body.
FIRST AID, CPR 0 CREDITS PASS/FAIL 10 hours
This is the Red Cross basic First Aid/CPR course for certification required of all basic core students, prior to graduation. This is a non-credit class (FEE PAID BY STUDENT)
GERIATRIC, MEDICAL CARE 2 CREDIT HOURS
This class prepares students for work with people that may be elderly, confined to bed or chair, hospitals, nursing homes or have prosthetic devises. Students will understand contraindications, benefits, effects and techniques to effect the homeostatic of an individual.
HEADACHE RELEASE 2 CREDIT HOURS
Clients come in with headaches all the time, the student will learn how to know if it is nutritional or muscular in nature. Student will learn the questions to ask, and modalities to use to get the muscles to release the pressure creating the head tension.
H.I.V. CARE IN THE MASSAGE ROOM 15 CREDITS HOURS
This class prepares students to work with individuals who have HIV, Hepatitis, or other communicable diseases. Students will learn about the disease, how to save guard themselves, the public, the client and how they will work with the individuals limitations based upon the illness.
HERB RECOGNITION 2 CREDITS HOURS
Students will take a nature walk; learn 20 herb names and their common usages. Students will pick leaves or roots to dry and make tincture, herbal infusions, salves and lip gloss.
HIP RELEASE M.E.T./ SCIATIC NERVE 6 CREDITS HOURS
This class enables the student to help clients who have low back, nerve or hip pain. Students will be taught about hips structure, how Sciatic nerve pain tells us of structure problems and what to do to correct these dysfunctions, using stretching techniques.
INFANTS MASSAGE 2 CREDIT HOURS
Students will learn about infants, and their cues they give adults. They will learn a massage flow especially designed for infants and their tiny bodies and small, tender muscles. This flow can be adapted and changed as the infant grows into childhood.
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE 3 CREDIT HOURS
Medical Massage Technique, Students will learn the Vodder method of lymphatic drainage. They will be able to apply drainage methods on Lymphaedemic diseases, edema, swelling from surgeries, casting and sports injuries.
MUSCLE TESTING 2 CREDIT HOURS
This class shows students how to test the muscles, thereby testing for illness, which medication you would best use, or what your body really needs. Our body all ready knows what is wrong with it and through muscle testing you will know what the body all ready knows.
MYOTENDONAL RELEASE 2 CREDIT HOURS
This class focus on the tendons at the insertions of muscles, students will learn a series of presses that deactivates the muscle sarcomeres, thereby releasing the tension in the muscle fibers.
NEUROMUSCULAR MASSAGE 15 CREDIT HOURS
The student will learn how to massage using their elbow, forearm and hands. This technique is a clothes on modality, which will work deep into the framework of the body changing muscle and bone thereby correcting body structures. This non-evasive method focuses on changing the body tissues and bones.
NUTRITION 2 CREDIT HOURS
We are what we eat, what we take into our bodies. Toxins in our food and environment affect our health in many ways. Learn healthy eating, and about a healthier way of life.
You will learn about the benefits of testing your own PH levels of your body and what to do to correct your acidic imbalances thereby preventing disease of the body. You will learn about the different types of calcium and magnesium’s, and what affect they have on the body to keep us disease free.
PATHOLOGY 40 CREDIT HOURS
This course studies in depth Medical terminology and or conditions of the body. The focus of learning will be on descriptions, symptoms and treatments, for pathological conditions of the integument, skeletal, muscular, nervous and sensory systems. Students will learn about inflammation, bacterial, viral infections and diseases of the human body.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE 2 CREDIT HOURS
This class is designed to help a student understand the changes that happen during pregnancy. Students will know how to start contractions, and what are the contraindications for massage. They will learn client comfort, and reflex
areas, designed to help with the delivery process.
REFLEXOLOGY 20 CREDIT HOURS
Reflexology is a class that covers the effects of manipulating reflex areas of the feet or hands for treatment of the entire body. Students will learn the benefits, effects and contraindications of Reflexology.
TRIGGER POINT 20 CREDIT HOURS
This course is designed to teach the students muscle palpation skills, how to feel muscles to determine underlying tissue build up, and how to work problems found. Students will learn to find points to shut off pain in the muscle restoring mobility to the client.
SPORTS MASSAGE 15 CREDIT HOURS
This class will incorporate the concepts of massage for pre-event, post event, rehabilitation and training, in order to tailor a program for each individual athlete. Students will learn the basic muscular anatomy relation to athletes and their sports. Students will learn to treat injuries with massage along with hot or cold treatments needed for rehabilitation. As well as hydrotherapy which is designed to change the environment of the body by means of water at various temperatures, warm, hot, cold, ice and applied by manual, mechanical or passive means.
STONE MASSAGE 2 CREDITS HOURS
With the growing demand for spa style massage, stone massage is a treatment, which has a unique flair. This is a relaxing modality using hot stones that promotes mind and body rejuvenation.
STUDENT CLINIC OR PRACTICAL 110 CREDIT HOURS
Under the direction of a clinic supervisor, students will practice the Swedish massage and other techniques or modalities. Student will be able to practice the techniques of Pain and Injury massage on a client while being supervised by a professional. Students will learn about the client/therapist relationship and how to create a professional atmosphere in their practice. Students will record 120 actual hands on massages on clients as a requirement of graduation.
SWEDISH MASSAGE 20 CREDIT HOURS
This class is the foundation of bodywork and sets the standard for the rest of the basic course. It focuses on history, concepts, techniques, benefits and contraindications of traditional Swedish massage. WHIPLASH, ROTATOR CUFF, AND SHOULDER INJURIES 6 CREDIT HOURS
This class will teach you the nerve plexus of the neck, how nerves are entrapped and how to release them from the soft tissues. We will discuss injuries, and what muscles are affected and how to release the dysfunctions that have developed in those muscles.
